Boeing Delivers 500th F/A-18 Modified at Cecil Field

The Boeing Company celebrated the delivery of the 500th U.S. Navy F/A-18 strike fighter modified at the company’s Cecil Field facility near Jacksonville, Fla.
Boeing and prime contractor Northrop Grumman have installed a wide range of avionic upgrades, technology improvements and structural enhancements to Navy and Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornets and Super Hornets since the modification facility opened in September 1999. The former naval air station functions as a “drive-in” facility that ensures modified aircraft are immediately available for deployment as soon as the work is completed.

Tiger Aircraft has landed in Valdosta, where new owners True Flight Aerospace will locate a corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility. The company is expected to create 150 jobs over three years and invest $3.8 million.Â

NTSB issues final report on Scott Crossfield crash

On April 19, 2006, about 1110 (all times referenced are eastern daylight time), a Cessna 210A, N6579X, owned and piloted by a commercial pilot, crashed into remote mountainous terrain near Ludville, Georgia, after entering thunderstorms. The pilot, the sole occupant, was fatally injured. Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The personal flight was operating under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 while on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan. The accident flight departed Prattville/Grouby Field Airport, Prattville, Alabama, about 1005, and was en route to Manassas Regional/Harry P. Davis Field Airport (HEF), Manassas, Virginia.
C-17 Globemaster III celebrates 16 years of flight

At 16 years young, the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is the newest and most versatile aircraft in the mobility fleet. And, according to those who fly it, it is the best the Air Force has seen in its 60 years.
“There’s no doubt in my mind I fly the best transport aircraft ever,” said Major Wayne Manuel, director of operations for the 817th Airlift Squadron’s Detachment 1.
The C-17 flew its maiden flight on Sept. 15, 1991. According to a Boeing Web site, it has broken 33 world records and won numerous awards since that maiden flight.

Hal Fishman, Los Angeles TV News Anchor & Pilot

Legendary KTLA Anchorman Hal Fishman, the longest-running anchor in television history, and a presence in Los Angeles broadcasting for nearly five decades that many in the city grew up knowing and trusting, has died at the age of 75. Hal’s strong connection with Southern Californians, along with his journalistic integrity, made him one of the brightest stars in KTLA’s 60-year history.
X-48B Blended Wing Body Research Aircraft Makes First Flight

The collaborative efforts of the Boeing Co. of Chicago, Ill., NASA’s Fundamental Aeronautics Program, and the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio culminated on the first flight of the X-48B Blended Wing Body research aircraft on July 20, 2007. The experienced flight research team kept a watchful eye as the 21-foot wingspan, 500-pound, remotely piloted test vehicle took off for the first time at 8:42 a.m. PDT and climbed to an altitude of 7,500 feet before landing 31 minutes later.
